If you caught our guest post about winterizing your RV, you may have had the time to hunker down and prep your home away from home for winter weather, but as spring and camping season approaches, you may be wondering how to get your RV out of winter-mode and ready for the road. Whether you’ve scheduled an appointment with an RV service department or you plan to take care of it yourself, here are some smart tips about spring cleaning your RV:
Interior Checks
- Give the interior a full cleaning and open all the vents and windows to let fresh air in.
- Check any closed off spaces like cupboards and drawers for damage from water, insects or other factors.
- Test all appliances, including smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, and plug outlets.
- Make sure your fire extinguisher is working and accessible.
- Run your AC system, replace filters, and clean it if necessary.
Electrical System Checks
- Run your generator for a short time.
- Change your oil and filters.
- Test the electrical panel, breakers and fuses.
- Swap out any burnt out light bulbs on the RV.
- Make sure all the lights and function on your dashboard panel are working.
Exterior Checks
- Remove any lids placed over open vents in the off season.
- Inspect body panels and accessory panels for damage.
- Look for leaks or cracks in seams and weather stripping.
- Check tires for inflation, cracks, etc.
- Inspect exterior luggage and storage compartments.
- Test all moving parts like wipers, door hinges, etc.
While this is just a basic list of checks you may want to run yourself or have a service shop do for you, taking the time to properly prepare your RV for a season of travel and camping can let you enjoy your time with peace of mind. For the times when preparation can’t prevent a problem, know that Gilbert RV Insurance has got you covered.
